Friends in Ramallah celebrate World Quaker Day
Over 25 people of all ages celebrated World Quaker Day in Ramallah Friends Meeting House on the evening of Saturday 10th October 2026. Local Friends were joined by visitors from abroad and other members of the wider Ramallah community for a short service.
A number of people spoke and greetings were received from FWCC Europe & Middle East Section, Friends United Meeting and other Friends around the world. We learned some of the history of Ramallah meeting house; the land was bought in 1906 placing the meeting house half way between the two campuses of the Friends School Ramallah, and it was officially opened in March 1910. Despite all the conflict and strife that has gone on around Ramallah since then Friends have continued to meet here ever since. We heard from people who attended Sunday school at the meeting house in years gone by and even about the nativity plays that used to be put on. Huge gratitude was expressed that there continues to be a Quaker presence in Ramallah. We ended the service with a short period of worship.
